    Yay! Drums!
    Practice pads
    Yay!

Britt brought my cymbals up the other day, and I got my HQ Percussion drums pads today so I finally got to play the drums for a while. I was all excited to play some STG, but there wasn't any on my iPod, so I just played along to some Muse instead.

Yikes it was hot! This is definitely a better workout than the treadmill :)

    Chadman's life in June 2008

    Welcome Xander!

    Xander Hear No Evil

On June 21st at 8:39am, our son Xander was born! He was 8 pounds and 4 ounces for those out there counting. 21 inches long too. In other words, not small! Mom was happy to get him out. At the risk of sounding like every freaking new parent on the planet, he's the cutest. Unfortunately, he's also the fussiest. And he likes to fuss most between 12 and 4am. Ugh. So much for sleep! Other than that, we're super thankful because mom and baby are both doing great. We have him until October, then life goes back to normal-ish when he starts infant care and we all go back to work. (boooo!)

Check out my photostream if you want to see more pix of the little monster.

    Canyon Adventures

Before Xander showed up, I was spending some Sundays up on Angeles Crest Hwy. Someone went down hard on a Ninja 250 and I caught one of the guys at Newk's talking about it.

I also get stuck behind a gixxer that was being driven really slowly and failed to yield. I posted a video of it, and proceeded to get into a flamewar with some guy that acts exactly like I did about 22 years ago (ala: Super Snobby Motorcycle Guy). Check out the comments (be sure and click 'view all comments' at the bottom of the page so you can see them in order) and watch me try and spar with a motorcyclist without being a snobby car guy. w00 fun.

    Hard Core Logo

Since I have lots of time sitting around keeping the little creature from crying his eyes out, I finally watched the movie "Hard Core Logo" that Gab gave me a bit ago. The movie was great, but painfully predictable for me since just about every band I've ever been in or known personally could have been the model for the movie script. It's a tragic tale of a self righteous band's complete implosion. The singer is totally self absorbed and has no real future without his band (but treats them like shit anyway), and the key creative band member is off looking for greener pastures, but doesn't tell the singer. Oh the drama. Anyone who wants to be in a band and see what kind of bullshit they're in for should watch this movie before signing on the dotted line. You've been warned.

    Idiot Stare Cover Ruined

Today Blayne dropped the news that NIN and Pete Murphy have releases a cover of The Normal's "Warm Leatherette", which normally would be pretty cool, except that Idiot Stare has already recorded a version of that song, oh, like two years ago, and we we're going to put it on our next CD. Suck. We've been beaten to the punch again. Hopefully Rev-Co won't ruin our cover of Milkshake the same way.

    Extreme Reactions to Gas Prices
My friends at M-Audio are having drastic reactions to the high price of gas. Hucky traded in his new-ish Jeep for a used Mini Cooper, and Marc bought a Honda Ruckus scooter so he wouldn't have to drive his Honda Pilot to work. It'll probably take both of them a while to make up the spent money, but who cares? These are cool toys!

    My Ghetto Neighbor
Apparently my neighbor thinks we live in North Hollywood, because he's "thrown away" his couch on the sidewalk. The problem is, in the SCV, the homies don't come along and pick it up. It's been there for a week.

For bonus points, note the browning grass (also a plus to beautify the hood) and the for sale sign that, surprisingly, hasn't worked for almost a year.

    Chemlab Show
The Chemlab gig was a great experience. I got to see a lot of great people that I haven't seen in forever, and meet a few new ones as well. Jared and company are all true pros and always great to gig with, as well as being fine humans to boot.

Our show went over fantastically. There was plenty of room up on stage, and after some 1st song issues (we only did a line check before going on), the monitor system was all worked out. The room was packed the whole time, and we even got the pit going with "To The Head". We played "World Destruction" for an encore, and on the very last note of the very last song, my guitar strap broke. It's like it gave its all for the show and broke right on queue. Weird.

Skeleton Key and USSA played between us and Chemlab, and during that time I found myself being chased out of the kitchen while witnessing a requisition of a metal spoon, stack of plastic cups, and a bottle of First Impression cleaner. Then I watched my friend's girlfriends dirty dance with each other. Ahem. We then went on a scavenger hunt for the lyrics to "Suicide Jag", as Jared invited Blayne to join Chemlab on stage later in the night during their set, and Blayne didn't know the words! I even shot the shit with Jared for a while, who was nice enough to remind me that Idiot Stare had played with Chemlab at the Troub last time they were in L.A. - something I had completely wiped from my memory. Doh.

Lots of cool old Coldwave personalities in attendance as well, all of which came up and said "hey". It was certainly a "rock star" night.

So, anyway. Chemlab goes on at some silly time like 1am (too many bands on the bill - and we did our part by playing too long - oops!), and THEY FUCKING BRING IT. Big time. I haven't seen a band own a room like that for a long time. Especially not in Los Angeles and not at one in the morning.

If you were in L.A. last night and didn't make it out, you missed some wikked Coldwave action! :)

    I fought the law...and won!
Way back in February I got a BS ticket for failure to stop in Pasadena. Well, I took the thing to trial by declaration and just today I got the news that my case was dismissed. w00t! I win!

    eno
    You're Brian Eno.
You're a little reclusive maybe, a little quieter
    than most people...
But man, who needs outside entertainment when your
brain is like KABOOM all the time? You are
    innovative, creative, and intelligent. You
    dress flamboyantly, gravitating towards large
feathers and tinsel. Everyone respects you, and
looks up to you. We are not worthy, we are not
    worthy...

    So.....

Rotten Records just asked to be STG's friend on MySpace. Hopefully they'll be straight and give up some sales figures. I'd love to know how NLH did over the years...although I'm prepared to be underwhelmed.

    A small victory for SATAN!
I've wanted to do this for sooooooo long...

So, I'm driving home from lunch. It's really hot out and I've got my windows down. Pull up to the stoplight next to some wiggers in an IS300, also with their windows down.

"BOOM uh huh BOOM, ya nigger nigger BOOM, ya, muthafuckers, uh huh, ya niggahhhhhh BOOM BOOM"

OMFG. I've pulled up next to some dorky white kids playing R&B (c)Rap as loud as they can get it. Well. Unfortunately for them, I'm feeling a bit superior because I just happened to have Slayer's War Ensemble playing. **evil grin** Up to 11 it goes! And here's the best part..after about a minutes of suffering thru my unholy musical attack, THEY roll THEIR windows up. SWEEEET!! SATAN WINS!!!!

    Burning down the house
What are the odds of this happening? Sunday afternoon Lynne's Compaq computer monitor decided it had enough of the heat and set itself on fire. Thank God we were home at the time and stopped it before any real damage happened. Everyone who leaves their monitors on 24/7 like we used to might want to reconsider.

So it's gonna be like that eh?
Ya know, just when you think that there's a freaking Industrial Scene growning in Los Angeles again, you have to hear some news that reminds you that, NO actually, it's just as fucked up as it ever was.

Apparently some FUCKING RETARD is going around town and throwing out our (STG) flyers for the upcoming Bar Sinister gig. WTF?! Are we back in the 80's when hair bands used to pull this kind of bickering bullshit with each other? I thought that all of us in the "scene" had grown up and gotten past this shit. To be honest, this crap NEVER happened back in the 90's when we were all working together. I guess this is what happens when some new people who don't know how to deal with their frustration enter the scene and decide to take their anger out on a BAND instead of fixing their issues with specific individuals.

So, PLEASE, if you know who's doing this, try and talk some reason into them so the scene can continue to grown instead of burn itself out again.

    Fucking get over it already.

    Zen and MotoGP
Just returned from MotoGP up at Laguna Seca. It was awesome. I forgot how good it is to "be a motorcyclist" even if I don't have a bike right now. It's just such a great culture to be around (although I can only relate to the "park and pose" type in the four wheel world).

    Here's a few pix.

My recent return to the drumset has been a great boost to my sense of self, and I think someday owning another 2 wheeler is also necessary to completing the puzzle that is the Chadman. The goal shall be to ride up to next year's MotoGP in July 2006. I'm sure if I budget appropriately, I can still do Z CHAN justice, get some wood flooring and other goodies for the house, and secure a cheap but fun moto by then. I knew I didn't sell my leathers for a reason.

    The needs of the many...
It looks very likely that after a 10 year reprieve, I'll be making my return to the drumset. STG's very awesome drummer Brandon unfortunately cannot make the next few shows, and I'm finding very quickly that I'm the best guy for the job. So, fun as it is to jump and bounce around playing guitar for STG, I think the band needs me more as a stable and reliable rhythm section than 2nd guitarist (STG needs 2 guitars like a hole in the head).

I have about one and a half months to secure a drumset and learn to not suck air after 1/2 song. Luckily I have a good connection with DW, and STG is willing to spend its cash on the cause. That should cover drums, hello treadmill to get me back into drumming shape.

All two of you (Lynne, Larry) who enjoy seeing me play guitar will have to wait until the next istare show - although I plan on putting on as best a show as I can from behind the kit. :)
